First Music Video and Community Activism!

Did you know that the guards employed by The Philadelphia Art Museum, Drexel, Temple and Penn University are employed by Allied
Barton, a company that gets 36 dollars per guard per hour and of that
each guard only sees 9 dollars an hour and gets no sick days or
benefits? In this issue I'll talk about the rally I helped with the
other weekend, where you can check out Delon and my first video, and
a dance Party for Peace I'll be DJing the 28th of September.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Making a Change <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I got in touch with Eduardo from Jobs for Justice (a non-profit
fighting for workers' rights) through a friend about a month ago and
have since performed at three of their events. I offered to lend him
my sound system for the rally they had the other week in front of The
Art Museum steps in Center City Philly. When I pulled up to load in on
a Sunday afternoon tourists galore were wandering, snapping pictures,
and buying 4 dollar cups of water ice as cars whizzed by. When we got
everything set up I blasted "The Pay Back" by James Brown. That set
the tone well! Then a series of speakers, preachers, teachers, actors
and musicians took the mic including myself. ABC news came with a
reporter and camera and by the end of the following week, the guards
were granted 3-4 sick days per year. Not much, but it's a start in
the right direction!

You can read the lyrics for a song I wrote especially for this cause
here: http://www.new.facebook.com/notes.php?id=290001015

If you weren't one of the lucky campers at last month's Backyard
Barbeque Concert, you missed an AMAZING show! Not only did Lucas
Carpenter http://myspace.com/lucascarpenter practically set my yard
on FIRE, but Delon and I premiered our first music video for the song
Sandsnake. You can see it on Youtube at

The Happenings of Lee G & Delon as of Late

So last week was a bit wild for me. It all started on Wednesday with a show I did with The Akwarian Sea Rebel http://myspace.com/akwariansearebel in Ocean City, New Jersey at Caffeine coffee house. It was a small charity show where I met Emari, who asked me if I wanted to perform and speak to the students at a high school in Atlantic City that Friday with Delon. I said “Of Course!”

      So that Friday Delon and I drove down to New Jersey again and arrived at the schools auditorium to find there was no sound system, no mics, NOTHING! We ended up doing our entire set with him beat boxing (making music with his mouth) and me rapping and it actually went well! After we performed, we gave them some advice on how to stay on track and before we left, Delon told them, “Oh! And one more thing! Don’t have sex!” The kids’ reactions were priceless. One teen screamed “You a virgin?” And Delon said “Yes! Gots to!” Again, priceless reactions all around, applause, laughter and smiles.

      The next night was the Cosmic Stomp show with Sonni Shine, The Akwarian Sea Rebel and guest performer, the immensely talented Barnabas Crosby http://www.myspace.com/barnabascrosby1. Everyone gave a great performance and everyone who came had a great time. Special thanks to Sara Parker for help promoting the show and to everyone who chose to be there on Memorial Day weekend!

I’ve put four “new-to-myspace” songs up http://myspace.com/leegmusic from the Dreams of Linda album. If you do not yet own a copy, please buy one NOW from iTunes or http://cdbaby.com/leegmusic. It is a testament, like a diary to the time Delon and I spent in high school developing our craft and an amazing album to boot. It will make you happy, sad, reflective and hysterical.

Two Shows in May and New Flows to Say

Hey!

Two show coming up this month.

============================CONCERTS=====================

The first is in New Jersey on Sunday, May 18th from 7-7.50pm at Caffeine, (32 Tuckahoe Rd., Wayside Village, Marmora, NJ 08223)

The second show will be Saturday May 24 at 7pm in PHILLY at Paul Green’s School of Rock in The Black Lodge, (1508 Brandywine St. Phila, PA 19130) with Sonni Shine http://myspace.com/sonnishine and the Akwarian Sea Rebel http://myspace.com/akwariansearebel. They are both amazing musicians that I really respect and YOU really need to hear. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Hit me up for tickets!

The One Man Band that I did the other week was spectacular.

Everyone was amazing and there were special guest performances by Bernie Bridges http://myspace.com/theservingclass who blew the roof off and the Akwarian Sea Rebel who performed songs from her NEW album that you MUST hear! It is one of my ALL-TIME favorite albums. http://myspace.com/akwariansearebel.

======================NEW MUSIC========================

I’ve put up a new song at http://myspace.com/leegmusic for your listening pleasures. If you have ever heard of Madlib’s alter-ego Quasimoto http://myspace.com/quasimoto then you know how incredibly mischievous this cartoon can be. This song is a story of an encounter me and Quas had yesteryear on a cloudy evening in the Spring.

Please buy Delon and my second album Dreams of Linda at http://cdbaby.com/leegmusic

I was just listening to it the other day and can honestly say that it is a great album worthy of listening to multiple times. Please support us and get yourself a copy now!

One Man Band and Two Free Songs

You can catch me Sunday March 30 at 2pm with 4 amazing musicians:
Lucas Carpenter, Sonni Shine, Dana Alexandra, and Nathaniel Hoho at
Philafunk in West Philly (Between 40th and 41st on Market St.). This
is going to be an awesome show with the theme of a "One Man (or Woman)
Band". People who can hold a crowd in awe and suspense all by
themselves. I just got tickets so let me know if you want one! I will
do what I can to deliver it to you personally unless you live in
China. This show will also be the release party for the Dreams of
Linda (Re-Issue) with SEVEN UNRELEASED TRACKS. And I even hope to sell
new Lee G & Delon pins and T-Shirts!

================>FREE SONGS?!?!<=============

Two songs are now up for download on http://myspace.com/leegmusic.
"Pretty Lady" is a story I wrote and recorded last week to a Madlib
beat and "Tree Song" is a highly educational story told from the
perspective of an old tree about the history of Fairmount Park in
Philadelphia. I made the song in 2005 for a documentary I developed
with Scribe Video http://www.scribe.org/.

================>NEWS<====================

My show at the Community College of Philadelphia on February 13 was
canceled due to complaints from teachers in the surrounding
classrooms. As I was performing the second song in my
'should-have-been' one hour set, an old man came up to the mixer and
turned my beat down so low it was barely background music. So then
imagine me walking over as I was rapping to turn it back up, then
having to stop the song because he ran back to argue. Apparently he
was the head of staff or something. Anyway, it was an experience and
I'm both thankful and sorry for anyone who came out to see me play and
was disappointed.

Dreams of Linda will be re-released with new artwork and 7 new songs.
I'm currently getting the CD's pressed. New Lee G & Delon pins and
T-Shirts are also in the works and will be hopefully be available at
the March 30 show!

================>FRESH NEW MUSIC<============

Check out Akwarian Sea Rebel on myspace at
http://www.myspace.com/akwariansearebel. She's an amazing musician and
the painter responsible for the new Dreams of Linda artwork!! (You can
view at http://myspace.com/leegmusic.) She gave me a copy of her
un-released album to give feedback and I honestly think it is one of
the best albums I have EVER heard.

Check out the artists I'll be performing with on March 30th at their
myspaces:

Lucas Carpenter - http://myspace.com/lucascarpenter
Sonni Shine - http://myspace.com/sonnishine
Dana Alexandria - http://myspace.com/danaalexandraa
Nathaniel Hoho - http://www.myspace.com/hohohosound

Thank you SO MUCH for your support.
I hope the rest of your day/night is gorgeous.

================>NEWS<=================

The first week of this New Year has been very interesting. My first
show of 2008 was Jan. 4th at PhilaFunk in West Philly with The
Downgrades http://myspace.com/thedowngrades. It was one of the best shows I've had yet and my first real gig at a venue. The Downgrades had a batch of new material that I LOVED and we rocked the house with an old classic from Dreams of Linda "Clouds, Mice & Elephants." Peep that HERE--> http://youtube.com/watch?v=Tibn8HkaoBU

Two days later I performed at WXPN's CREAM: Philly Rising semi-finals with Delon and had a BLAST! Catch a new song I performed "Don't Have to Say" HERE---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXbfgwRyi2A and another "Dark Blanket" HERE---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT6WqKEZtyc&NR=1 Delon and I got members of the crowd to write down words on cards that I had to use for an improvisation in a free-style while Delon beatboxed. Unfortunately one of the words (courtesy of my friend Mounir) was "PENIS". I hope no one was offended. After I lost the competition to a rock band named The Absolute Zeros http://www.myspace.com/theabsolutezeros, I headed over to The Roots' Studio to a Nouveau Riche http://www.myspace.com/nouveauricheband jam session.

You can peep images of these 2 action packed days HERE--->
http://s179.photobucket.com/albums/w295/LeeG190/First%20Week%20of%202008/

The next day me and Delon were in the studio with Rodney Whittenberg http://rodneywhittenberg.com/ to work on "Mommy Flies Away". He added some touches that take the song to a WHOLE new level and blew both Delon's and my mind! We'll be back in the studio with him this week and he said he wants to be our Geoff Emerick (The Beatles recording engineer) =D

===============>TO COME<================

I'm currently working on having some Lee G & Delon T-Shirts available for sale at shows!

Still working on our 3rd album lOOk @ the TREE which should be
finished and available SOON since I got fired from my restaurant job the morning after the Jan. 4th show for oversleeping!!

Songs like "Right On" and "Funny Little Things" containing samples will be put on our 4th album Lee G & Delon Meet The Psych-Folk Movement which will be 100 percent FREE as a token of our appreciation for your support!

==============>AVAILABLE/SUPPORT<=========

Almost every week I've been going to the Philly Rising Open Mic competition at World Cafe and last Monday I actually won!! So now I'm going to the monthly finals on January 6th, 9pm @ World Cafe (30th and Walnut in Philly). It's free so if you can make it and show support please do and I'll give that love right back to you!

On a less exciting note, I came in second place at the Open Mic Competition at Drexel college the other week. Quite unfortunate considering I lost by 3 people and by the time they took count at least 8 people who had come to see me had left but such is life...
Sometimes.

Open Mic competition, shows, etc

Shows...
WELL this Thursday at the Drexel Late Night Series Open Mic, 32nd &
Chestnut in Philly @ 8.30pm (November 15th, 2007) I'll get a 10 minute
set.

MOST IMPORTANTLY
Please come to the open mic @ 32nd and Chestnut St. 8.30pm on
December 6th because whoever can get the most heads to come out will
get a FULL set the next week (and I sure hope that person is me)

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm now working at Chresheim
Cottage and LOVE IT.
And to remind everyone that there are two type of gains that must be
considered in jobs...
1) Monetary gain ($$$$)
2) Well-Being gain..(Does it make you feel good?)
I realize that in the past, jobs I had were far outweighed by the
monetary gain and really didn't make me feel to good about myself. I
love my new job. I pour people water and set their tables. It is
simple and pays well. Until I make $$$ making the music that I love so
much, this is veryy nice.

The show at Moore was delicious. A bit more formal than I'm used to,
(chairs and tables) and the energy of the crowd (and my energy) seemed
to die down a bit towards the end, but at least 6 people liked it for
sure, maybe even LOVED it, and in a room of 50 or so people that's not
bad! That's what, 12 percent? I'll take 12 percent!

I just put up a Lee G & Delon iLike music page, so if you've got
facebook and like us, ADD US!
iLike.com - http://www.ilike.com/artist/Lee+G+%2526+Delon
For facebook -
http://apps.facebook.com/ilike/artist/Lee+G+%2526+Delon
I mean, iLike us...

Speaking of bad jokes, I tried comedy for the first time at Moore
College.
I felt so nervous I couldn't even read the lyrics for the new song I
had planned to perform (my eyes didn't work!) But it actually went ok.
I know at least a couple people laughed at the things I said which
weren't so much jokes as they were things about my life that I find
humorous like the neighborhood I live in, Halloween, my job etc. It
was an experience for sure! I'm not so sure I'll do straight up
stand-up comedy again, but that doesn't mean I won't slip little bits
of "comedy" in between songs at shows to keep things interesting!

Just got some songs up on http://LeeGRap.com in the music section.

Musicians I love that you might want to check out...
Devendra Banhart...........
Vashti Bunyan..........
Vetiver..........................

My second album Dreams of Linda is still available at
http://cdbaby.com/leegmusic and iTunes. Please make a purchase and
show support.

The third album lOOk@theTREE is coming.

Hope all's well with everybody.
Things are very well with me.

Werewolves and Flying Mommies

===================NEWS===============================

===> DON'T give ranting crazy people microphones!!

I did a show at a Park at 4th and Lehigh for a super religious audience, an old man came up to me saying he wanted the microphone for a quick second to say, "Praise God". No sooner did I hand him the microphone than he was freestyle rapping in gibber-gabber language, and I was prying the microphone from his hands.

===> Backyard Show
Despite Delon not being able to come, and many people not showing up, the concert turned out to be a blast. A very chill atmosphere with a nice BBQ set-up, and people lying on the grass and enjoying summer with The Downgrades filling the atmosphere with songs that caused smiling and dancing, then with my songs of space police, realness, and promiscuous girls named Stacey. I learned that waiting for a sample to finish singing the chorus of a song before my next verse can be annoying and awkward. In the future, I would like to either perform my own choruses or collaborate with singers/musicians. But it was such a great night, I can?t complain.

===> Werewolf Anthem & Mommy Flies Away
The new song on my myspace (www.myspace.com/leegmusic), called "The Flood" is about being and turning into a werewolf on the night of the full moon. The inspiration really came to me from times when I?ve momentarily transformed into a ?monster? because of suppressed anxiety or anger, only to find myself again later and regret what I did during my dark state. In Delon's words, "You're heart rate is faster after you've listened to it than it was before you listened."
It could be the new Werewolf Anthem, the next "Who Let The Dogs Out" perhaps...
The other song , "Mommy Flies Away" is a surreal, dream-like story song that tells a story of a mom who decides to fly away from her child
because she doesn't like to cook. Listening to it reminds me of the clay-mation on the James and the Giant Peach movie.

================> SHOWS/ RELEASES<========================

****There will be another Lee G & Delon///Downgrades concert in my backyard in late July, (I?ll keep you posted)

****Delon and my second full-length album DREAMS OF LINDA is available on WWW.CDBABY.COM/LEEGMUSIC
It?s an album that can make you laugh, cry and think. With songs subjects that span from writing a hopeful ?Letter to Love? stained by dry tears, to angrily chopping off 50 Cents man-titties with a samurai sword, ?Samurai Swordsman in Swim Trunks?.
I encourage all of my REAL fans to support me by purchasing this album. It has so much, and if you already own it, please stop by and write a review.

****Delon and my next album will be released this October!!

****I?ll be performing at the open mics at World Café almost every Monday night 8:30pm. World Café (30th & Walnut) is a beautiful venue. Please come out for some
great musicians and food, plus to hear me perform 2 new songs.

==>Becoming Light: Poems New and Selected (1991) by Erica Jong

?The technology development of today (and sadly the music) depends not on the Einsteins (and Mozarts)
but on a huge army of plodding engineers (and, in the case of music, well-endowed young females)
who may show only occasional flashes of brilliance.????However when it comes down to
business, you don?t want your occasional flashes of genius but , evenmore than that, you want steady
stream of small improvements over time.
